Vinnie and Waldman gig last night

The show was short and sweet last night. They only played for an hour but the room was packed and Vinnie was as into it as I've seen him in a long time. He hasn't played live in LA clubs much for a while now due to his dislike of bootlegging and video taping. He seemed really at ease (except for a stand light that he couldn't adjust quite right at the beginning). Even though he had a couple areas that he didn't hear quite right he still was playing at such a high level and carving the tunes as only he can. The guitar player was Mike O'Neil and the bass player's name I didn't catch although he had a great tone and nice touch. Last time I saw this group Dave Carpenter was on bass. They played a couple of tunes from each of Randy's last 3 albums. Vinnie's 18" kick sounded great as did his whole set. The first tune and the last were blazing tempo 4/4 jazz. Just an awesome setting and tune selection from Randy. It was also great to see and meet some of this HOD fraternity, especially Cbrady and John who had some interesting insights and was easy to hang with.....

After reading my post, it could be construed as Waldmans band not hitting the mark. Let me clarify.... they created the mark. The music was amazing as well as the talents of those that were playing this evening. Great, beautiful, amazing music.

And again to clarify... saying "amazingly enough" about the Gretsch drums was a poor choice of words. The drums sounded amazing for what they were. A small "hip-gig" style of a kit that really knocked my socks off!! Kudo's to Gretsch for such an amazing sounding tiny kit.

This was a great gig! Enough said. It was cool hanging with all the usual suspects, J-Mech,MM(Mark/rackmeister general), Da Chooch, Pocket, Shedder, Drum4fun,etc...(forgive me if I've left anyone out). I'm still sick about missing the aftershow dinner and hang! I was stewing about it all day yesterday! If I had just hung out about another 15min....... Oh well.

I dont even need to hope that you guys had a great time, cos you obviously did! Great stuff!

Definetely catch more shows, as they get more comfortable its going to be freakin burnin!

That second photo of the man with his tongue out, concentrating, is just priceless...

I dont know why, but whenever someone gets to meet or see vinnie live i feel happy for that person lol

I can't believe he even introduce himself, not saying it in like hes too cool for it but like in a way as if you dont who he is!!! lol

I would probably plop my pants if he came up to me and said hi im vinnie, but when i do meet him (hopefully one day i will) i will keep in mind that he likes to be treated like just another guy!

actually it's not my first time. i did get to touch the hem of his robe amidst a hoard and had a photo op with him at namm this past year. [img]wink.gif[/img]

this one was a little different. almost like a private clinic? i think he just liked the fact that i gave him his space? meaning, i engaged in what he was doing from afar and he saw that but perhaps sensed that i wanted give him his space and not treat him like a demi-god? i dunno, that's my theory.

whatever it may be, i'm grateful for that experience.
